Have you ever watched someone being bullied or have you ever been the target of bullying yourself? Our usual response to bullying is to fight back, run away, or ignore it and try to be the better person while the bully has their way.

But what if you knew of another alternative? One that didn’t invite more aggression…one that puts you in control of the situation so that you do not lose face in front of peers…one that helps you diffuse or even handle the bully outright while you stand your ground?

In this book you are going to learn:

  • How not to think or react like a victim
  • How to stand up for yourself if you are an intended target of bullying or violence
  • How to stand up for others as the bystander
  • How to break the cycle of self-sabotage that causes aggressive behavior or bullying

If you have children in school—
If you are a teacher, school administrator, or someone that plays a role in the life of a child—
If you have ever felt hopeless and out of options—
If you want to know how to be assertive without being violent, this book is definitely for you.
Put control back into your life. Learn to be an assertive, effective Hero!

This book is amazing. Every teacher, parent, student and mentors need to read this book. This books lets us into the author's life of being bullied, being a bully then making the right decision to help himself and others. I read this book to my students and they have learned a lot from it. This book kept their attention because they knew it was about someone they had seen and heard from.

I highly recommend it. Book is well written and contains great information. It is an excellent book for any school age child to read. It gives options when faced with real life situations. I bought books to give to my 4 grandchildren to read. Author shares his own experiences of being bullied at home and school. Sharing with the readers gives you a better understanding of the author and why he wrote the book. Who better to give advice on this subject than someone who has LIVED IT.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Imperative Read
By Nuwan on January 23, 2013
Format: Paperback
I titled this review "An Imperative Read" for many reasons. Firstly and most importantly, if it hasn't caught your attention, bullying is an overwhelming endemic that is infecting the schools, the places we work, and even in our homes, and it seems to becoming more and more prevalent in this day of age. Victims are committing suicide, that also being children, or taking drastic measures to escape this tortuous never ending cycle of suffering. This book however, seems to answer all my questions on how to escape bullying. I, being a victim of bullying when I was once a child, wish I had read this book when I was younger so that I could know how to overcome and face my demons. Even if you aren't a victim of bullying yourself, the author goes beyond that and teaches you how to prevent it when you see someone else being bullied.

The author seems to have exceptional knowledge which the common man does not, on bullying since he goes into the story of how he overcame it himself as a youngster. He is a seasoned martial arts and self defense instructor and often delivers school assemblies on child safety and bullying. He also holds seminars for all ages on how to handle tough situations. So this book isn't just targeted at children, but towards all ages. The author also goes into details on how to manage your life in any perspective you can think of using easy to follow flow charts, basically putting things into ways I have never thought of. One of my favorite things I have taken away from this book is the way we envision ourselves. I am a medical student and I use the authors method of grading ourselves often, and I apply it not only to my studies, but also many aspects of my life, and I can proudly say it has made me a better person.

I highly recommend this book for any parent, teacher, student, employee, or anyone in general.I believe this book is a necessity in the common household and if people read this book, it would prevent a lot of suffering. Where else to get knowledge on this subject than from a victim that has overcome bullying himself successfully and has dedicated the rest of their lives to teaching others on how to combat it. Rather than being a victim, bully, or bystander, this book teaches you to be a HERO instead.... An imperative read indeed....

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A book every child should read with their parent or teacher!

This book is written from the heart by a man who has experienced bullying at many levels. By sharing his own life, the author shows the reader that they are not alone. The book teaches various strategies to use in real life situations while promoting skills one would need to be his or her own advocate. This book promotes self-worth and character trait recognition to help the reader evaluate their role in both positive, and negative, interactions. Although this book can benefit readers of all ages, it is written on a level that most upper level elementary/middle school students can read on their own. I would love to see this book incorporated into health curriculums everywhere!
